Never underestimate real rest and feeling comfortable in your skin.
After a traumatic event I woke up with deep-seated, painful acne that erupted overnight and continued to spread over the next few months. After many months of dermatologists visits, aggressive topicals and prescriptive medications, I felt worn down and my skin looked worse. Every doctor and healer I saw gave me different versions and speculations about what was happening with my skin. Hormones. Food. Mood. It was all of these things and none of these things.
Summer came, and I went home to see my grandma. She picked me up at the airport and immediately took me to a family friend. Dr. Pang whom I also called grandma was a doctor of Chinese Medicine. After an emotional conversation, I walked out with her hand-written custom herbal formula and a bag of dried flowers (that I’d later discover tasted nothing like how the fresh flowers smelled and would initiate my return to Chinese Medicine). Back in New York and two weeks after taking the formula twice a day, my skin cleared completely, and never erupted like before again. This formula consisted of roots, barks and plant parts that worked together at specific dosages and duration to undo the knots under my skin from the inside. It reminded my skin of what it’s like to feel healthy again.
The emotional trauma that triggered this event would take many more years to unpack and resolve until I felt free. Feeling at home in my skin got me started and helped me realize healing was possible and helped me continue in a good way.
Healing is a one-of-a-kind labyrinth for each person and not clever tricks.
I believe in meeting you where you are, and wherever you are right now, sleeping soundly and feeling comfortable in your skin as you go are essential and not optional.

I love calling the Santa Monica Mountains home and serving this community. Driving down the canyons to catch a sunset by the sea never gets old. You may see me out and about with my daughter and dog, Hunny, who loves wind sniffing from her carseat (but don’t get too close because she’s go full fierce with her voice and all twelve pounds and have successfully frightened children and grownups since the day we met.)
